XP Forum re-branded the Agile Forum

The XP Forum has been successfully rebranded as the Agile Forum, with the first meeting taking place on the 17 March.

The event, which is organised by Psybergate, brought together representatives from large companies, such as banks, to small software development companies to discuss issues around agile methodologies.

More than 25 people attended the event, which was hosted by Hollard Insurance in Johannesburg, says Prof. Barry Dwolatzky, the director of the JCSE.

The panel discussion centred around defining what Agile software development is, says Dwolatzky. The discussion was informal, with all the participants able to add to the discussion or ask questions, he notes.

XP (extreme programming) is a form of agile software development that prescribes a certain set of data practices.

Its proponents believe that exercising these practices leads to a development that is responsive to customer needs and is therefore, more agile than traditional methods of creating software.

"The event was very successful, with the people who attended the event giving us very positive feedback on the content of the forum," says Dwolatzky.

Participants also had the opportunity to network after the event, and to share insight about the software development challenges that they face, he says

The Agile Forum is a monthly event. Details of each event are found under the events section of the JCSE website (www.JCSE.org.za).  For more information about the Agile Forum, email us at info@jcse.org.za
